🛠 About the product / Function
This rectangular polishing tin features a distinctive slanted lid and a triangular back with a hanging eye. Thanks to this design, the tin can be used both freestanding and wall-mounted.
The decorations of cranes, blossoming branches, and lanterns give the piece a pronounced oriental aesthetic. The sides display the “GLIM” brand, while the inside of the lid features the original Dutch text:
“In this tin, only ‘GLIM’ products may be stored.”
🏭 Manufacturer & history
The Glim factory in Overschie (1918–1970) was a well-known Dutch brand of polishing products. With the slogan “Be smart, use Glim,” the company secured a firm place in many households.
Production took place in a distinctive factory building featuring large “GLIM” lettering. The brand ceased to exist in 1970 following its acquisition by Koninklijke Zwanenberg Organon.
