Douwe Egberts originated in 1753 in Joure, the Netherlands, where Egbert Douwes and Akke Thijsses started a grocery store. Pickwick later became the tea brand of Douwe Egberts and was introduced in 1937. The name “Pickwick” is inspired by The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens.
