🏭 Manufacturer & history
Douwe Egberts is one of the best-known Dutch coffee and tea brands. The company was founded in 1753 in Joure by Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thysses, who started a shop selling colonial goods.
Under the leadership of their son Egbert Douwes Jr. the company continued to develop, increasingly focusing on coffee, tea and tobacco. During the twentieth century the brand grew into an internationally recognized name.
In 1919 an important facility was opened in Utrecht because of its central location. After World War II the company expanded internationally to countries including France, Spain, Denmark and Belgium.
