📋 Detailed Product Description:

  • Manufacturer: C.J. Van Houten & Zoon N.V.
  • Date of Manufacture: 1920–1970

This square Van Houten tin is a special vintage find, produced between 1920 and 1970. The cube shape with a hinged, snap-shut lid makes the tin practical and sturdy. The black base is stylishly finished with gold and orange lines. Each side features colourful images of Italian Venice, making the tin a work of art in itself.

Inside the lid, the original printed text reads:
C.J. Van Houten & Zoon N.V. Kon. Fabriek van cacao en chocolade WEESP - HOLLAND

Van Houten is named after the family company that started producing chocolate products in Amsterdam in 1815. Casparus van Houten Sr. was a pioneer in grinding cocoa beans into cocoa powder, a product that revolutionized the chocolate industry. The patent expired in 1838, after which cocoa powder production expanded widely.

Venice, depicted on the tin, is located in northeastern Italy and is famous for its waterways, bridges, and rich history. The name “Venice” may be related to the Latin word “venetus,” meaning “sea blue.” The city also carries nicknames like the “City of Water” and “La Serenissima.”

With this tin, you bring not only a piece of nostalgia into your home but also a story that will delight both chocolate and travel enthusiasts. It’s an ideal collectible and a stunning decoration for any vintage and design lover.
