The Rolykit is an iconic storage system from the '70s and '80s, celebrated for its unique roll-out design. This version – known as the “tackle box model” – features a hexagonal shape with multiple interlocking compartments. When unrolled, the compartments unfold to reveal dozens of small trays, which only open when lying flat. When rolled up, the base of each tray forms the lid of the next – keeping everything securely in place, even on the go.
The Rolykit was invented in 1973 by Dutch filmmaker Samuel Meijering. He came up with the idea out of frustration with the clutter on his work table. The first prototype was made of cardboard. Together with former classmate Gied Jaspars, he founded the company Golden Inventions. They sold the rights to manufacturer Van der Molen, who successfully launched the product worldwide. An estimated 17 million units were sold globally.
This particular Rolykit dates from the 1970s/’80s and is in good vintage condition. It is complete, works exactly as intended, and shows the expected signs of decades of use – just as you’d expect from a well-loved classic.
