🏭 Douwe Egberts, Pickwick & Bekkers
The history of Douwe Egberts dates back to 1753, when Egbert Douwes and Akke Thijsses opened the grocery shop De Witte Os in Joure, the Netherlands.
In 1937, Douwe Egberts introduced the Pickwick brand name for its tea. The English name reflected the association of tea with England at the time and was inspired by Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers.
The tin was manufactured by Bekkers in Dordrecht, a Dutch manufacturer of metal packaging and decorative tinware.
