🛠 About the Product

This original Verkade tin was produced to package Honingontbijtkoek (Dutch honey gingerbread). Its sturdy construction, featuring rounded corners, rolled edges, and a hinged lid, created a durable container suitable for everyday household use.

The exterior is decorated in warm yellow tones with a striking honeycomb pattern. Graceful nasturtium flowers and leaves add a distinctive and timeless character to the design, while the product name HONINGONTBIJTKOEK is prominently displayed on the lid.

Today, this tin makes an attractive collectible and decorative piece for a kitchen, pantry, or vintage interior.

🏭 Manufacturer & History

Verkade was founded in 1886 by Ericus Gerhardus Verkade. The company began as the steam-powered bakery and rusk factory De Ruyter in Zaandam and grew into one of the Netherlands’ most iconic producers of rusks, gingerbread, biscuits, cookies, and chocolate.

Verkade became renowned not only for its food products but also for its beautifully designed packaging, much of which is now highly collectible.
