A Jodenkoek (also Jodekoek or Odekoek) is a large, flat shortbread cake of about 10 cm in diameter.

Early mentions of the Jodenkoek (Jew cookie) can be found in an advertisement by the confectioner C. Strunck in the Java-Bode in 1872 and the following year in an advertisement by the Groningen confectioner and biscuit baker Foppe Egbertus de Haan in the Leeuwarder Courant. The Jewish cakes were also sold earlier. At the annual market in Den Helder in 1854, for example, no fewer than thirteen peddlers sold 'Jode koeke'.

Jodenkoeken were baked in Alkmaar since 1883 by the Stam aan de Houttil bakery. In 1924 this business was taken over by Dirk Davelaar from Zaandam. The Davelaar company, located in Zwaagdijk, celebrated the centenary of their Jewish cake in 1983. In 2021, Davelaar announced that he would now sell the Jewish cakes as 'Odekoeken'. This would do more justice to the contemporary zeitgeist. The Centraal Joods Overleg (CJO), which represents the interests of the Jewish Netherlands, has never asked for the name change. The Dutch Jews have never had a problem with the name Jodenkoek. There is no negative connotation attached to it because, according to legend, the Jewish cakes were simply made for the first time by a Jewish baker. The name change was even called total nonsense by Ruben Vis, secretary of the Dutch-Israelite Church Society
