Cylindrical "Hooimeijer" biscuit tin with white flowers

Description
Round biscuit tin with loose lid. The decoration consists of a dark yellow background with a white flower border at the bottom. On the lid a large flower with several small ones around. Text on lid in diamond shape: "Hooimeijer biscuit".

Marked at the bottom with logo and text: "Hooimeijer Beschuit" (in relief)

Condition
This biscuit tin is in a good vintage condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Pictures are part of the description.

Hooimeijer beschuit
'Bolletje' may have taken the honour, but it is the Hooimeijer family from Rotterdam who have made a popular product of the long-life shipping food.

Last century Hooimeijer rusk became a broad concept. In its heyday, 65,000 rusks were baked per hour in the Hooimeijer rusk factory in Barendrecht.

Arie Hooimeijer was a baker in South Rotterdam and had a keen eye for entrepreneurship. At the beginning of the last century he was asked by a local grocer to bake 10,000 rusks. That became his first challenge, then he started thinking that he could deliver packaged rusks to several grocers. In this way he became a factory baker from a simple baker. First a small factory in Rotterdam South, then in 1934 a machine rusk factory in Barendrecht.
