About the Albert Heijn 1966 Biscuit Tin:
This striking round biscuit tin features a loose-fitting lid with a knob handle and rolled edges at the top and bottom. The base has a raised rim with a separate side seam, and the tin itself is made with a folded longitudinal seam. Its decoration consists of colorful oriental flowers and branches set against alternating blue and white panels, arranged in a windmill-like pattern, finished with a golden rim and knob. The text “Albert Heijn” with crest is embossed on the base.
The tin was issued on the occasion of the opening of the Albert Heijn supermarket in Eindhoven on May 25, 1966. The first 1,500 customers received one of these tins, which were all distributed by the afternoon. The launch was a great success: the store proved far too small for the overwhelming interest, and from that moment on secured its place in the city.
