About this vintage 500g tin:
Step back into the 1950s with this rare, larger-sized dark yellow tin canister for De Ruijter’s “gestampte muisjes.” This tin radiates history and craftsmanship: round in shape, reinforced with a folded seam and base for durability, and finished with an elegantly rolled rim for a classic look. The dark yellow background is adorned with the royal supplier’s crest and fine brown Dutch lettering.

The text highlights gestampte muisjes – a traditional Dutch treat made of anise seeds and sugar, enjoyed on bread or crisp rusks. This specialty has been produced since 1860 by P. De Ruijter & Zn. B.V. in Baarn, the Netherlands.

About the manufacturer:
Royal De Ruijter B.V. has been producing high-quality bread toppings since 1860 and was granted the title of Purveyor to the Royal Household in 1883. The company is famous for its wide range of products such as hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles), chocoladevlokken (chocolate flakes), and gestampte muisjes. The latter was created in response to older customers who preferred softer anise seeds, and has since become a beloved Dutch tradition.

Why this piece is special:
This rare 500-gram tin is not only a decorative and collectible item but also a wonderful piece of Dutch culinary heritage. Perfect for display in a vintage collection or as a unique gift for lovers of nostalgic food culture.
