🛠 About the product

Through colourful illustrations, the tin tells the story behind traditional Dutch ontbijtkoek (spiced breakfast cake). The scenes depict the entire process, from ploughing and sowing to harvesting the grain, milling, preparing the dough and finally selling and distributing the finished cake.

The various scenes are accompanied by short Dutch rhymes, including “De boer ploegt voort met vaste hand” and “Door kruiden, honing en kandij is koek een échte lekkernij.” This makes the tin more than just a decorative object: it tells a complete nostalgic story.

🏭 Manufacturer & history

The history of Peijnenburg began in 1883, when Harry Peijnenburg started a bakery in Geldrop, the Netherlands. The family business developed into a well-known producer of traditional Dutch ontbijtkoek.

Exactly one hundred years later, in 1983, the company celebrated its centenary and was granted the prestigious Dutch “Koninklijk” (Royal) designation.
