🛠 About the Product

This tall, round shop display tin was used for Van Melle's Vruchten Drops (fruit-flavoured sweets). Impressive sailing ships are depicted travelling across the waves around the entire tin.

The largest ship features details including a Dutch pennant and the Dutch lion. The Van Melle's Confectionary Works emblem appears both on the ship and on the lid.

The rich red background, dark maritime illustrations and ornate Gothic-style lettering combine to create a particularly decorative and distinctive design.

🏭 Manufacturer & History

The history of Van Melle dates back to around 1840 in Breskens, the Netherlands. Starting as a bakery, the family business gradually developed into a confectionery manufacturer.

Production became increasingly mechanised around 1900, and during the 1920s the company's range expanded to include products such as biscuits, wafers, toffees and caramels.

Products that emerged from Van Melle's later development include the internationally recognised Fruittella and Mentos brands.
