The origins of De Roode Pelikaan date back to 1863, when Joseph van Leckwijck started a coffee roasting business in Antwerp. Under the name “De Roode Pelikaan,” the brand became a well-established name within Antwerp’s rich coffee tradition, alongside brands such as Rombouts and Miko.
For the international market, the name was later changed to Pelican Rouge. Since 1983, the brand has been part of an international group focused on coffee vending solutions.
