Bolletje originated in Almelo, where Gerardus Johannes ter Beek opened a bakery in 1867. By the 1950s, Bolletje had grown into a national producer of rusk. The brand name “Bolletje” and the famous slogan “Ik wil Bolletje!” made it an icon in Dutch advertising history.
