Manufacturer Background:
SIO (Speelgoed Industrie Overijssel) was a Dutch producer of children’s toys based in Vroomshoop. The sales office was located at Herengracht 25, Amsterdam. Founded in 1938, the factory was for a long time the only industrial enterprise in Vroomshoop. SIO mainly produced wooden toys, games, and construction sets, including the famous SIO Montage sets, such as this model 155.
The toy designs were created by Rokus and Corry van Blokland, who emphasized color and shape for their educational value. The factory burned down in 1982, after which production was temporarily continued elsewhere. The SIO brand was discontinued permanently in 1990.
